Samhain (pronounced Sah-Wen or Sah-Ven):

Also known as Halloween, Samhain is the Feast of Death, when contact with the discarnate takes place. It is also the time when the barriers between the worlds (living and dead, dream and waking) are at their thinnest.

It is the beginning of the darkest time of the year. The God is still in the foetus stage, waiting to be born (the potential for life but not actual life). Thus the Festival of Death is also the potential for Life.

Samhain is connected with the goddess Hecate (the Celtic Morrigan).
