One of the rising leaders of the "Religious Right" is Dr. Ralph E. Reed Jr., former executive director of the Christian Coalition. The Christian Coalition was founded by the Rev. Pat Robertson following his 1988 presidential campaign. Its purpose is to help Christians have an effect on the political process.
Under Dr. Reed's leadership, the Christian Coalition has grown to more than 1 million members in more than 900 local chapters nationwide.
Before he joined the Christian Coalition as executive director, Dr. Reed served as executive director of the College Republican National Comrnittee and was the founder and executive director of Students for America (SFA). At SFA, he built a network of 10,000 conservative college students on 200 campuses in 41 states.
