Thanksgiving at O'Brien's
In cold lands
we cling to our better passions
until we have lost ourselves
in each other
until we are so lost
until...
You wander off to gentler places
I wonder if the sun will make you lonely
or if God speaks more clearly
--- if the wonders are brighter ---
where you are.
And can you see this thing I see?
The city standing unpright against the sky - starless -
that close in
so cold.
I wonder if it is, where you are,
the same starless cold sky
or if the empty night takes you,
like a child,
in its arms.
