Litha (Alban Hefin, Summer Solstice)

The Maturity of the Sun. This day also marks his decline. It is the beginning of the Rule of the God of the Waning Year. This day is also known as Ura, and is represented by the letter "U" in the Celtic Tree Alphabet. Heather is sacred to this holiday, as well as Honey -- Mead (Honey Wine) is traditionally consumed by some.

It is also the time of the Aztec Feast of the Sun, the Native American Sun Dances, as well as the Festival of Saint John the Baptist (the God of the Waning year in disguise?).

In the Chthonic magickal tradition, Litha is represented by the Celtic Alphabet Consonants: Uath, Duir, and Tinne. Celtic Trees: Hawthorne, Oak, and the Holly-Oak.

"May all nations sing thy praise, O' Firey Lord, at this, thine hour of maturity: Thrice blessed is thy phallus of light, without which we would not be! We enshrine thee in our hearts, O' Summer-crowned King, Golden One, thou to whom our Mother openeth her womb; And even now, as thou begins thy journey westward, we know that thou wilt ever return. Io Evohe!
